Cornwall Wed Meet Up -Winter 2015

Once again November 11th saw the return of the brilliant Cornwall Wed Meet Up event. A quarterly networking day for all those involved with the wedding world in Cornwall.

A medley of suppliers and venues were there in full force for the whole day at The Alverton Manor Hotel in Truro to listen to guest speakers, speed network with fellow businesses, enjoy a delicious lunch and offer support to one another in such a hectic industry.

Hazel of Hazel Parsons Wedding & Event Consultancy and Jenny of Jenny Wren Weddings & Event Planning yet again excelled in organising this sought after event and invited some terrific speakers including Tina Reading – Editor of Ultimate Wedding Magazine, Kirsten Butler – Venue Stylist of The Little Wedding Helper and John Harvey – Networking Guru of The Samphire Club.

So after words of wisdom from John Harvey on “the Art of Networking”, a very speedy yet very effective networking session and some very useful tips on “Being self employed and staying sane” from Kirsten Butler we settled down to a spot of lunch served in The Alverton Manors very lovely restaurant. On the menu today was:

Dinner:

Roast Topside of Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, Honey Roast Parsnips, Red Wine Jus

Herb Crusted Cod, Olive Crushed New Potatoes, Beurre Blanc

Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni, Cornish Yarg Crumble, Pesto

Desserts

Pear & Rhubarb Crumble, Vanilla Custard

Panna Cotta, Strawberry & Mint, Strawberry Soup

After much deliberation over the delicious sounding options I decided to opt for the Herb Crusted Cod, olive crushed new potatoes and before blanc followed by pannacotta, strawberry and mint and strawberry soup, all of which sounded delightful.

The restaurant itself was decorated and adorned with the talents of Stargazer Wedding Decor Hire who supplied the Table Runners, beautiful Succulents, mercury Tea Lights and silver photo frames. Ballooning, Buds and Bows creating the stunning flower arrangements to complement the table dressing and give a gorgeous sophisticated wintery wedding feel. The Paper Princess brought the table settings together with her elegant stationary which included personalised menus, a rather unusual eye catching table layout of chairs which looked fabulous (See below) and incredible paper poppies to commemorate Remembrance day.

Surrounded by the winter wedding setting we dived into our food; the beautifully presented cod was delicious and fresh with a crunchy herby top, and nicely complemented by the creaminess of the beurre blanc; with the addition of potatoes and an array of fresh vegetables it was a wholesome meal, perfect for a cold day without being too heavy. The roast dinner looked equally as appetising with an impressive Yorkshire pudding and rich gravy to boast again offered with seasonal vegetables to round off the meal.

With a wonderful selection of puddings to choose from it was a hard to decide, from a wintery pear and rhubarb crumble to a light pannacotta. Unfortunately they had run out of pannacotta by the time they got to me so I opted for a crème brulee, which was a rich set vanilla custard with a caramelised sugar top and homemade shortbread which was indulgent, absolutely delicious and more than made up for the panna cotta!

After words of thanks for Hazel we made our way out of the Great Hall to listen to Tina Reading discuss digital trends of the wedding industry and rounded the day off nicely with some tag networking – seeking out those who we hadn’t talked to yet.

As we made our way home laden with business cards and goodie bags I can honestly say it is one of the most affective networking events available to business owners. It is a quick fire, informative day, topped off with a fabulous lunch – what more could you want?
